Round 9 predictions

Castleford Tigers v Hull FC

Both sides were in Challenge Cup action last week and had very contrasting results. The Tigers are heading to Wembley after beating the Wolves on Saturday – whilst the black and whites cup run was ended by St Helens. Hull FC’s woes were compounded after losing star centre Josh Griffin for the remainder of the season.

This week, Daryl Powell has made several changes to his squad and probably goes into Thursday’s clash as underdogs. Hull FC will be looking to bounce back after last weekend’s disappointment as the Tigers make some key changes to their squad.

The last time these two sides met at the Jungle, it was very eventful – hopefully, their round 9 clash will live up to the billing.

Castleford Tigers and Hull FC go head-to-head live on Sky Sports YouTube channel. You can watch the game, for free, here.

Prediction: Hull FC by 8

Hull KR v Salford Red Devils

Salford will be desperate for a win against a Hull KR side that are looking for back-to-back league victories. The Red Devils were well off the pace in round 8 after being thumped by Warrington and will need a big response away at Rovers.

Hull KR were convincing winners against Leigh last time out, playing in front of their home fans for the first time in over a year. They are at home in round 9 and in front of the Rovers faithful, which will undoubtedly lift the side once more.

Both sides have had an extra week preparation which should account for a tough and competitive contest.

Prediction: Hull KR by 6

Warrington Wolves v Wakefield Trinity

Trinity head into Friday’s game against the Wolves undefeated in their last 3. Confidence will be sky high against a Warrington team that will be hoping to rectify last weekends Challenge Cup exit.

The Wolves have had the advantage over Trinity in recent home meetings – Wakefield haven’t beaten Warrington at the Halliwell Jones since 2014. That record would suggest a difficult evening for Chris Chester’s side, especially with Warrington out to right their wrongs from last week.

Trinity are yet to beat a side in the top 5 and it will be a tough ask to change that in round 9.

Prediction: Warrington by 14

Leigh Centurions v Catalans Dragons

Leigh gave a spirited performance during a closely fought loss against Wakefield despite having a depleted bench. The Centurions are doing it a tough at the moment and it won't get any easier in round 9.

Fresh from winning the Betfred Coach of the Month award following an unbeaten run in May, Steve McNamara and his Catalans side head to Leigh rejuvenated after a week off and boast a formidable record away from home this year.

It’s hard to look past anything other than a comfortable Catalans victory on Saturday.

Prediction: Dragons by 20
