Round 10 predictions

Wakefield Trinity v Castleford Tigers

It's a West Yorkshire derby to begin round 10. Wakefield and Castleford will both be looking to bounce back after disappointing defeats last week. Interestingly, Castleford have won their last 14 meetings against Trinity, as well as their last 6 away meetings. Trinity last beat Cas in February 2015 and last beat them at home in September 2013.

If Wakefield are to break their Castleford voodoo, they will need to score points. Cas know their way to the try line and should welcome back Niall Evalds & Gareth O’Brien - providing even more threats in attack. However, they will need to sharpen up in defence against a Trinity side that has improved their go forward in recent weeks.

After Castleford’s disappointing loss at home last week, expect a response from Daryl Powell’s men - especially as they look to build some momentum on their way to a Challenge Cup Final next month.

Prediction: Tigers by 6

 St Helens v Warrington Wolves

Saints had a week off after a gruelling Challenge Cup encounter two weeks ago due to Covid-19 - the break will no doubt have given the players a well needed rest which should rejuvenate them heading into Thursday’s clash.

Warrington were victorious last week over Trinity and never really looked like losing – but will need to step up their performance if they are to beat St Helens. The game will be won down the middle and both sets of forwards will need to gain the upper hand to allow their talented back lines to flourish.

Wolves will need to be near perfect to topple the Saints. But, after a weeks break and a good run of form, it’s Saints game to lose.

Prediction: Saints by 10

Huddersfield Giants v Salford Red Devils

Salford were well below their best against Hull KR last week and find themselves in a relegation fight near the bottom of the league. Friday’s game against Huddersfield is huge for the Red Devils – whether they get a result away at the Giants or not, their performance needs to improve.

Huddersfield missed their round 9 fixture and have named a smaller squad as they wait for results of Covid tests from players ahead of Friday Night. They do, however, get to play their first match in front of home fans for the first time in over a year.

Salford have an impressive record away at Huddersfield, winning their last 7 meetings. However, that run could well come to an end on Friday.

Prediction: Giants by 12

Wigan Warriors v Hull Kingston Rovers

As we head into round 10, Rovers sit in the top 6 following 5 wins in their opening 9 games. They’re making great progress in 2021 but take on a Warriors side challenging for honours. Wigan haven’t played since their defeat away at Catalans in round 8 and they will be desperate to rectify that sub-par performance.

Hull KR were dominant against Salford last week and will go into Friday's game full of confidence. It’s been a long time between drinks for the Robins who haven’t won at the DW Stadium since May 2009, highlighting the mammoth task they have on their hands this week.

Despite Rovers impressive form, Wigan will be tough to beat in front of their home fans as they look to get back to winning ways.

Prediction: Warriors by 16

Leigh Centurions v Hull FC

The Centurions last two performances are evidence that they aren’t far off getting their opening win of 2021. A late loss to Wakefield in round 8 followed by a spirited effort in defeat against the Dragons last week has shown that they're heading in the right direction.

They face a Hull side fresh from wining away at Castleford and looking to continue their winning form on the road. The black and whites could be light in their back line following injuries to Carlos Tuimavave and Cameron Scott against Cas, as well as Josh Griffin’s season ending injury.

In front of their home fans, Leigh will be pushing for their first win of the season - but could fall short against a side who know how to grind out wins this year.

Prediction: Hull FC by 4
